The Season -Lammas 

Abundance and the start of harvesting.

Soil - Growing from seed to harvesting your own crops how to bering regenerative agriculture to our own growing space. Fruit growing, forest gardens, raised beds and hugelculture. Perennial vegetables.  Growing mushrooms.

Soul - Lammas is the celebration of this first Grain Harvest, a time for gathering in and giving thanks for abundance. We will talk about the grain and gluten - why we have so many intolerances, how to avoid them and soothe the belly. We will also learn how to ferment the glut of harvest and why fermented foods are good for you but we should also be mindful of how we feel when we eat them. We will enjoy a lunch from the this seasons soil offerings cooked over the fire.

Grow through the seasons - This is part one of a series practical workshops on caring for the soil and your soul through growing, cooking and eating good food. Workshops can be attended and purchased individually or as a series. 

Following the Celtic solar calendar of seasonal tasks and celebrations, we will be exploring how to grow food organically and regeneratively. How what we grow and eat benifits our health and wellbeing and how nature gifts us with what we need at the right times of the year. With workshops and hands on experience.

Who Would Love This Experience? Whether you are a complete novice, or a seasoned gardener we will be exploring a wide range of topics across the year. From soil health and why it matters to seed sowing and propagation.  

What to Expect: Jan and our guest speakers will take you through our regenerative growing ethos where soil and gut biodiversity is at the heart of all we grow. Polly will take you through the foods we are growing to give you understanding their health benefits, what to cook with them and how to preserve their goodness through the seasons. 

This is a truly regenerative series. With a strong emphasis on organic no dig and permaculture techniques, each workshop explores different seasonal tasks in the garden, which will enable you to grow a wide range of healthy food, which will benefit both your own health and that of the land.

The workshops can be taken as individual sessions or as complete food growing course. Each workshop will include feasting from the fire and a chance to cook with Polly as well as plenty of advice and practical practice. This course will bust a lot of myths around growing your own food and really show you the joy that can be found in rewilding your patch and embracing nature.

By kind invitation of Ben Daniels, Rocket and Russet (Yorkshire’s Premier Market Garden) we will be hosting our workshops within his working regenerative Market Garden. Ben grows for the best restaurants in Yorkshire and beyond. By visiting through the seasons you will have exclusive viewing of what Ben is growing and we will cook and eat food straight from his garden. 

As these are Jolly Allotment events you can guarantee the fires will be burning and the nourishment flowing.

This is a truly unique ad wonderful series of workshops that will inspire you to live and grow a regenerative live and feel super well from the inside out! So excited to deliver this to you. 

These days are in the safety of nature we will be in an open barn or poly tunnel and we will feast around the fire on the food grown around us please dress appropriate for the weather. 

Who we are:

Jan Hoyland is a widely experienced horticulturalist. She is an expert in rewilding land, Permiculture, no dig and biodiversity. She is passionately knowledgeable about soil health and the role plants play in the health of our health. Regnerative growing is a combination of all these philosophies and this course will teach you all you need to know. She is a passionate advocate of sustainable and beautiful gardens which can benefit wildlife as well as people. She qualified in Horticulture from Askham Bryan College, York, and trained at Cambridge University Botanic Gardens before working for many years as a Head Gardener for the National Trust and as Curator of the Yorkshire Arboretum, Kew at Castle Howard. 

Polly Baldwin - Gut health and regenerative wellbeing expert. Founder of Jolly Allotment and Retreat Fire Cook. Polly regenerated her own health through food and nourishment when she was told there was nothing modern medicine could offer her to improve her debilitating symptoms. So she turned to natures medical cabinet and the soil for help. She now speaks, cooks and shares her knowledge to help others improve their own physical and emotional health through good food and reconnecting with their primal human needs.

Weather policy: All our events is all about connecting with nature and the elements so much of the day will be outside so please dress sensibly in warm coats and shoes. We will be eating in the rather beautiful and warm polytunnel or tent or around the fire. If we have to reschedule because of the high winds, we will move your ticket to the new date or refund where appropiate.

Cancellation policy : All ticket prices included a none refundable booking feee of £3.50 inc VAT. We are a small company so our refund policy is to not offer refunds unless exceptional circumstances. We will try to move you to another date and resell your ticket. If for any reason Jolly Allotment Ltd have to cancel the day we will refund your the ticket or give you the option to move to a new date. By purchasing a ticket you are agreeing to or refund policy. Thank you for your understanding. 

Dietary Requirements: I cater for all dietary needs except regrettably Nut allergies, I hate not being able to cater for you nut allergic friends, but my kitchen is completely coeliac friendly and I use a lot of nuts. I know how much havoc trace gluten has on me and I cannot guarantee cross contamination of nuts, I am so sorry! Please inform us of any other dietary requirements. 

Food Mannifesto: All the seasonal food will have full provenance. It will be as local and as organic or regenerative and nature friendly  as possible, we have connections the most wonderful farmers.
