Wintering - Our January Alpine Retreat with Root 2 Rise

My retreat menus have evolved from a necessity to Nourish the body, heal and survive, and help me feel jolly joy again. My food is truly nourishing for the gut, mind, body and soul, so I loved it when one of our retreaters said this.

'Your food makes me so emotional; it really makes me feel something.'

This lovely conversation about food with one of our retreaters this January made me realise that food isn't emotional for everyone. Is it emotional for you?

Our most primal human need is food and nourishment. Without it, we can't function or survive. But we have become so disconnected from what we eat and how it should make us feel.

Food should help you feel nourished. Feeling nourished differs from the enjoyment of fast food or fancy foods. It's emotional because your body is thanking you and crying out for more.

Nourishing your gut so it can repair and feed your gut microbiome is key to preparing the body for other well-being practices, such as Movement, meditation, sound, cold exposure, and adventure challenges.  

There are two types of retreats: those that nourish and empower you to make great physical and emotional shifts in your life and teach you to be more resilient, and those that give you a rest from your daily routine. Both are valuable experiences, but it's good to know the difference when investing in your practitioners, facilitators, and retreat chefs.

My food comes from a need to nourish the body to heal, survive, and help me feel again. It's truly nourishing for the body, so I loved it when Natalie and Jim Bradshaw invited me to their Winter Alpine Adventure retreats to educate the retreaters on Gut Health and feed them breakfast and lunch. It is always a privilege to help people prepare their bodies for healing and empower them with enthusiasm to regain their power over their food.

This retreat is transformational. I love working with Root2Rise because they are really knowledgeable in different areas of healing and always seek out the most powerful education for themselves so they can offer the most valuable and powerful experience to their clients.

The Wimhof method is super powerful, but when offered with all the other incredible tools these two lovely humans have, it's a whole different level of experience. Jim is a level 2 certified WHM Instructor and Sound Healer. Natalie's speciality is regulating the Nervous System, working with the Energetic Body and weaving in aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Incorporating Yin Yoga, Sound Healing, Energy Work and Ceremonial Cacao Medicine to enhance/support your experience.

They are so professional at reading the needs of every client and holding space for every individual need.

It was a privilege to feed everyone so their bodies could receive all the energy, work, and experiences they were engaging with.

On a Personal Note: This January was also an exciting, emotional and healing time for me as I returned to my beloved mountains after 8 years away. 8 years of healing and learning, and returning feeling very different. When I left the mountains, I was leaving my whole life, friends, and exciting career, all because I was too ill to be safe on the mountain and because I needed to find answers to regenerate my health. It's been an incredibly long and enlightening journey, but every day, I miss the person I was and the adrenalin-filled life I had as an extreme sports and events photographer. So, going back was a big thing for me. So, returning healthy and able to do all the winter activities I miss and enjoy the mountain again put so much light back into my life.

We will go deep into the Breath, exploring Cold exposures with a focus on 'the Power of the Mind' and a healthy dose of going out of your comfort zone. We will show tools to influence the mind, regulate your autonomic nervous system and take control using Basic Fundamentals and Advanced WHM techniques. You will learn about the physiological mechanisms that come into play and engage in various breathing and cold therapy activities as we explore a combination of Ice Baths, Local Troughs, Alpine Waters and Lakes, depending on weather conditions and safety. We will also incorporate Yin Yoga, Sound Healing, Energy Work and Ceremonial Cacao Medicine to enhance/support your experience. All of this alongside gut health education, healing, and nourishing foods.
